Class - Free Motion Quilting & Mondrian Mini Quilt with Robin Bogaert - October 16th

If you are fearful about free motion quilting or feel this is a weak skill and you need some tips and practice, then this is the workshop for you.  In this workshop, there will be several demonstrations and an opportunity for students to practice each demo until they are feeling much more comfortable with their free motion quilting skills.

We will work on the Mondrian Mini Quilt (Robin’s original pattern) . This should be sewn up prior to the class. Your fee includes choice of a fabric kit.

All of the right supplies, tools and tips will be discussed. Yes you can free motion quilt!

As an added bonus, Robin will present a mini-trunk show, sure to inspire youi!

No need to bring a sewing machine. You will be able to use our store models.

Includes sandwich wraps, dessert and a drink for lunch and a Swag Bag made by Robin and filled with goodies!

Please note that if you are allergic or have food sensitivities that you may wish to bring your own lunch.

Lunch, fabric kit, one quilt stencil, and use of our machines.

Machines will be threaded with neutral colours that will suit all fabric kits. You will be practicing on both longarm machines and domestic sewing machines.

Please bring your own thread snips, notepad, and pen. Quilting gloves are optional. You may wish to bring an additional small quilt sandwich for practicing on (approximately 14" x 14").

Please choose one of the following fabric combinations and indicate it in the notes at Checkout: Midnight Ocean or Toasted Cinnamon Latte or Tropical Sunset. You will need to pick up or have your kit shipped to you to be able to sew the block together before coming to the class. The printed pattern and instructions are included with your kit. 

Please note that you will be working on various machines and staff will be on hand to assist you if needed.

Instructor Bio:

Robin Bogaert is a long arm quilter, creator and blogger at quiltingintheloft.com and has many years of quilting experience. Robin lives in Port Sydney, ON. Robin considers the focus of work to be designing, teaching, trunk shows, free motion quilting, ruler work and thread painting. Robin has always been brand loyal & passionate about Bernina Sewing Machines and is considered a BERNINA Q Series expert providing educational workshops for BERNINA Canada & local quilt/sewing shops.

Robin was featured in the Summer 2016 and 2017 (Canada 150 th) edition of Quilters’ Connection Magazine. Robin was also the featured artist/trunk show presenter at the St Jacobs Quilt Festival in 2019. In addition, Robin is a current Bernina Brand Ambassador & blog writer for BERNINA International Blog.

Coffee and tea will be available in our kitchenette.  Please bring a travel mug or sealed cup to avoid any spillage.  Tap water in our classroom is drinkable.

Arrival:

You may enter via the main door of the store or if someone is in the classroom they can open its door to make it easier to bring your things.   If you start time is prior to store opening, please wait to be let in by your instructor as staff may be busy completing their pre-opening duties.

Parking:

Limited parking spots are available in the parking lot at store level.   Please refer to signage to ensure you are NOT parked in a designated residential parking spot.  Free long term town parking is available on the river side of our building (to the left).  There is NO parking allowed on Water Street.  E-chargers are available within the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot.  NOTE: there is a time limit for parking at Shoppers Drug Mart.
